How to sow strawberry spinach successfully outdoors?

To sow fresh spinach outdoors, choose a sunny spot protected from the wind. Sowing can be done in spring (March-April) or autumn (September-October). Prepare the soil by weeding and working it deeply so that it is well aerated. Scatter the spinach seeds about 3-5 cm apart, covering them with a thin layer of soil. Be sure to water the soil regularly to maintain some moisture, but without soaking it.

It's important to monitor the growth of spinach seedlings and thin out if necessary, leaving around 10-15 cm between plants. Remember to mulch the soil to limit weeds and hoe regularly to aerate the soil. Fresh spinach can be harvested when the leaves are well formed and before they go to seed. By following these simple tips, you can enjoy delicious fresh spinach grown naturally in your garden.

How to plant Strawberry spinach?

To plant strawberry spinach in the ground, choose a sunny or semi-shady, well-drained spot. The soil should be rich in organic matter and slightly acidic, with a pH of between 6.0 and 7.0. Before sowing the seeds, loosen the soil by working it with a fork to aid germination.

Strawberry spinach can be sown directly in the ground in spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. Sow the seeds in rows about 30 cm apart, 1 to 1.5 cm deep. After emergence, thin out the plants to leave space between each.

If you prefer to transplant strawberry spinach plants, wait until the plants have at least 4 leaves before transplanting them into the ground. Be sure to water the plants well after planting to encourage them to take root.

Strawberry spinach is an easy vegetable to grow and requires little maintenance. Make sure you water them regularly, especially in dry spells, and mulch the soil to keep it moist. Harvest the leaves when they are still young to enjoy their delicate flavour.

How do I harvest strawberry spinach?

Strawberry spinach can be harvested in spring, as soon as the leaves are large enough to eat. To do this, simply cut off the leaves at the base of the plant with scissors or a sharp knife. It's best to cut off only the leaves you need, leaving the others to grow for a later harvest.

Strawberry spinach will keep for about a week in the fridge. We recommend storing them in a perforated plastic bag to keep them fresh. You can also freeze strawberry spinach leaves for longer storage. To do this, simply wash, dry and place in a freezer bag.

By practising natural gardening, you promote the health of your plants and the quality of your harvests. By caring for your strawberry spinach without using chemical fertilisers, you'll get healthy, tasty leaves that are rich in essential nutrients.
