To plant large snowdrops, we recommend doing so in autumn, preferably in September or October. Choose a sunny or semi-shady spot, in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Large snowdrops prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil.
Create a hole twice as wide as the root ball of the plant. Place the plant, ensuring that the collar (the part between the roots and the stem) is level with the ground. Fill in the hole and lightly pack the soil around the plant.
If you are transplanting snowdrops that are already in pots, make sure you separate them carefully to avoid damaging the roots. Water well after planting and keep the soil moist over the following weeks to encourage rooting.
Large snowdrops are hardy plants that require no fertiliser. They flower in early spring and are perfect for adding a splash of colour to your garden. Don't hesitate to plant them in groups for a more spectacular effect.
