How do I sow asters outdoors?

To sow asters outdoors, we recommend doing so in spring, after the last frosts. Prepare a well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Work the soil by spading and levelling before sowing. Sow the seeds at a depth of 1 to 1.5 cm, spacing them about 20 to 30 cm apart. Cover the seeds with fine soil and pack the soil lightly to ensure good contact.

It's important to keep the soil moist but not soggy until the seeds germinate, which can take 1 to 3 weeks. Once the plants are established, be sure to water regularly but sparingly, avoiding excess water which could encourage the development of disease.

Asters are fairly hardy plants but can be susceptible to fungal diseases. To limit the risks, avoid over-watering, aerate the plants well and avoid getting the leaves wet. By following these recommendations, you'll be able to enjoy magnificent asters all summer long.
