How do I plant camellias?

The camellia is a magnificent plant that deserves a special place in your garden. To plant it in the ground, it is best to do so in autumn, before the first frosts. Choose a shady spot sheltered from the wind, with acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil. If your soil is chalky, don't hesitate to add peat or brown earth to acidify the soil.

Create a hole twice as wide as the root ball of the camellia and incorporate mature compost to nourish the plant. Place the camellia, fill the hole with soil and tamp lightly. Water thoroughly after planting to encourage rooting.

If it is necessary to transplant your camellia, do so preferably in spring. Proceed in the same way as for planting in the ground, taking care to water the plant well after transplanting. With these simple tips, your camellia will be able to flourish and give you magnificent flowers throughout the seasons.
