When should forsythia be planted?

Forsythia is best planted in autumn or early spring, outside the frost period. It enjoys a sunny or slightly shady position, which favours abundant flowering. Undemanding, it adapts well to most soils, provided they are well drained. To plant, dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, loosen the soil and water generously to ensure it takes root. Once established, the forsythia is a hardy shrub, easy to live with and very decorative from the end of winter.
