Heart of Mary
How can we sow Mary's hearts outside?
To sow hearts of mary outdoors, we recommend doing so in spring, once the last frosts have passed. Prepare the soil by carefully weeding it and working it deeply so that it is well aerated. Marigolds prefer moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
To sow the seeds, make holes about 30 cm apart and drop in one or two seeds. Cover lightly with soil and tamp gently. Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Marigolds need light to germinate, so be sure to expose them to sunlight. Once they have reached a few centimetres in height, you can thin them out, leaving just one plant per hole.
Be sure to protect your young plants from slugs, which can be fond of hearts of mary. By following these simple tips, you'll be able to enjoy beautiful flowers throughout the summer season in your natural garden.
