Hibiscus
How do I plant a hibiscus?
To plant hibiscus in the ground, choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball of the plant. Add a little compost or potting soil to loosen the soil. Place the plant in the hole, making sure that the top of the root ball is level with the ground. Fill in the hole, packing the soil lightly around the plant. Water thoroughly after planting.
If you wish to transplant a hibiscus already in a pot, wait until spring or autumn. Carefully remove the plant from its container by pressing on the pot. Gently loosen the roots to untangle them. Follow the same steps as for planting in the ground. Be sure to water regularly without allowing water to stagnate at the roots.
Hibiscus prefer slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Avoid soils that are too heavy and clayey, which could encourage root rot. In winter, protect the plants from the cold by mulching them with dead leaves or covering them with a winter veil.
