Lemongrass (Indian verbena)
How to sow citronella successfully under cover?
To sow lemongrass under cover, it is advisable to start by collecting fresh lemongrass seeds. These seeds can be sown in small pots filled with good quality potting soil. Place the seeds on the surface of the potting soil and lightly cover them with a few millimetres of potting soil.
Sowing under cover is best done in spring, around March or April, when temperatures start to rise. Take care to maintain constant humidity in the mould without soaking it. Lemongrass needs heat to germinate, so it's advisable to place the pots near a heat source.
Once the shoots have reached a sufficient size, you can transplant them into the ground in your garden. Make sure you choose a sunny spot and space the plants about 50 centimetres apart. Lemongrass likes soil that is rich in organic matter and well-drained.
