Lilies (lis, lilium)
How to plant lilies
To plant lilies in your garden, choose a sunny or semi-shady spot with well-drained soil. The best time to plant lily bulbs is in autumn, before the first frost. Dig a hole twice as deep as the size of the bulb and mix a little compost into the soil to improve its quality.
Place the bulb in the hole with the pointed side up and cover it with soil. Space the bulbs about 15 to 20 centimetres apart to avoid them touching once they have grown. Water lightly after planting to help the bulbs settle.
If you choose to plant lilies that are already in flower, make sure you transplant them into well loosened soil and add a little compost when transplanting. Make sure you water them well to encourage them to recover.
Lilies are easy to grow and require little maintenance. Just make sure you water them regularly and remove wilted flowers to encourage new blooms. With a little care, you can enjoy beautiful lily flowers in your garden every year.
