How do I sow flax outdoors?
To sow flax outdoors, start by choosing a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Avoid using chemical fertilisers, opting instead for compost or well-decomposed manure to enrich the soil. Flax is generally sown in spring, when temperatures start to warm up.
Before sowing, hoe and loosen the soil, removing any weeds. Sow the flax seeds about 1 to 2 cm deep, spacing them about 20 to 30 cm apart. Tamp the soil lightly to ensure good contact between the seeds and the soil.
Water regularly but lightly, as flax does not like excess water. Make sure the young plants are not choked by weeds by weeding them regularly. Once the plants have reached a height of around 15 cm, you can thin them out, leaving just one plant every 10-15 cm.
