How do I plant marjoram?

To grow marjoram, it is best to plant it in the ground in a sunny, well-drained spot. Marjoram prefers light, chalky soil rich in humus. If your soil is too compact, add sand to improve drainage.

Marjoram can be sown directly in the ground in spring. If you want to transplant seedlings, do so in spring or autumn. Allow about 20 cm between each plant. Marjoram is a hardy plant that tolerates the cold well, but would be more at home in a cold greenhouse during the harshest periods of winter.

It's important to keep an eye on watering marjoram, as it doesn't like soil that's too wet. Favour moderate, regular watering. Marjoram does not require fertiliser, but you can add a little compost to the surface in spring to nourish the soil.
