How do I plant a Mirabelle tree?

The Mirabel is an easy fruit tree to grow in a natural garden. To plant it in the ground, choose a sunny spot sheltered from the wind. The best time to plant a Mirabelle is in autumn, when the soil is still warm. Prepare the soil by decompacting it and adding a little compost, but avoid chemical fertilisers.

Create a deep, wide hole to accommodate the Mirabelle tree's roots. Place the tree so that the grafting point is a few centimetres above ground level. Fill in the hole, packing the soil lightly around the base of the tree. Water thoroughly after planting.

To transplant a Mirabel tree, choose a vigorous specimen and remove it with a clod of soil. Plant it in a hole prepared in the same way as for planting in the ground. Make sure you water regularly, especially during the first few months after planting.
