Narcissus (daffodil)
How do I plant daffodils?
Narcissi, also known as daffodils, are very popular bulbous plants for their highly fragrant and colourful flowers. To plant them in the ground, we recommend doing so in autumn, before the first frosts, to allow the bulbs to establish themselves before winter. Choose a sunny or semi-sunny spot with well-drained soil. Narcissi prefer soil rich in organic matter.
Create holes about twice the size of the bulbs and space them about 10 to 15 cm apart. Place the bulbs with the tips facing upwards and cover them with soil. Water lightly after planting and keep the soil moist but not soggy. Daffodils do not require fertiliser, as they make do with the elements present in the soil.
If you want to transplant daffodils that are already in the ground, wait until the foliage has turned yellow after flowering. Dig up the bulbs carefully, divide them if necessary and replant them immediately. Daffodils are easy-care plants and can remain in place for many years.
