Can phacelia be sown outdoors?
To grow phacelia outdoors, it's best to sow in spring or early autumn. It's important to choose a sunny, well-drained spot for sowing. Before sowing, it is advisable to weed the area thoroughly and loosen the soil by working it with a spading fork.
To sow phacelia seeds, simply broadcast them over the surface of the soil and lightly cover them with soil. Be sure to leave about 30 to 40 cm between each seed. Then tamp the soil lightly after sowing to ensure good contact between the seeds and the soil.
It's important to keep the soil slightly moist at all times until the phacelia seeds germinate and the plants reach a sufficient size to be transplanted. Once the plants are well established, phacelia will not need much maintenance, its vigorous growth providing effective competition with weeds.
What is the ideal size for phacelia?
For optimum phacelia cultivation, it is advisable to prune the plant at different times depending on the desired objective. To encourage the formation of a beautiful plant, training pruning can be carried out at the juvenile stage. This pruning involves pinching the phacelia to encourage the development of lateral branches.
To maintain the plant, regular pruning can be carried out to maintain a harmonious shape and limit spread. It is advisable to cut back any wilted or damaged stems to encourage the growth of new shoots.
The plant should be pruned regularly to maintain a harmonious shape and limit its spread.
With regard to fruiting, it is important to know that phacelia does not produce fruit. Therefore, pruning has no impact on fruit production. However, it is advisable to let the plant grow freely to take advantage of its melliferous flowers until it reaches its maximum size.
