How do I sow poppies outdoors?

To sow poppies outdoors, it's best to wait until all risk of frost has passed, usually in spring. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Before sowing, loosen the soil by working it with a spading fork or rake.

Fly sow the seeds about 30 cm apart, then cover them very lightly with soil. Water gently to keep the soil moist, but avoid excess water which could cause the seeds to rot.

Be sure to remove any weeds that might compete with the young poppy plants. Once the plants are well established, they will require little maintenance, as poppies are hardy and undemanding plants.
