How do I sow sorghum outdoors?

To sow sorghum outdoors, it's best to wait until all risk of frost has passed, usually late April-early May. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Before sowing, work the soil by weeding and levelling it. You can enrich the soil by mixing in compost.

Sorghum seeds should be sown about 2 to 3 cm deep and 20 to 30 cm apart. Be sure to cover them with fine soil and pack lightly. Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but avoid overwatering.

Watch out for weeds and remove them regularly. Sorghum can be susceptible to fungal diseases, so make sure you aerate the plants well by spacing the rows. You can also mulch around the plants to limit weed growth and moisture loss.
