Pole bean
How to sow string beans successfully outdoors?
Ram beans are plants that grow well outdoors, without the need for chemical fertilisers. To sow them, wait until all risk of frost has passed, usually between the end of April and the end of May. Prepare the soil by weeding and loosening with a pitchfork. Dig furrows 3 to 5 cm deep, about 40 cm apart.
Sow the string bean seeds every 10-15 cm along the furrow. Then cover them with fine soil and pack lightly. Water gently to keep the soil moist but not too wet. Beans need well-drained soil to prevent seed rot.
Make sure the plants are well supported from the start of their growth, by installing stakes or oars so they can climb. Mulch the soil to keep it moist and prevent competition from weeds. Finally, keep a regular eye out for aphids and remove them manually if necessary. By following these simple steps, you'll be able to harvest delicious string beans for the whole season.
