How do you sow pansies outdoors?

To grow pansies outdoors, it's best to sow the seeds in autumn or early spring. Choose a sunny or semi-shady spot with well-drained soil. Before sowing, weed and loosen the soil with a pitchfork to remove stones and weeds.

Create small furrows about 1 cm deep and space the pansy seeds about 15 cm apart. Cover the seeds with fine soil and pack lightly to ensure good contact with the soil. Water gently to keep the soil moist but not soggy.

Make sure the young plants are protected from slugs and snails, which can damage the leaves. Once the plants are well established, they require little maintenance. You can harvest the flowers to enjoy as a bouquet or to decorate your dishes.
