How to sow valerian outdoors?
Valerian is a perennial plant that can be sown outdoors in spring or autumn. For successful sowing, it is best to choose a sunny or semi-shaded spot with well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
Before sowing the seeds, it is advisable to weed and work the soil by spading and levelling. Next, sow the seeds at a depth of 1 to 2 cm and space them about 30 cm apart.
It's important to keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate, which usually takes 2 to 3 weeks. Once the plants are well established, watering can be spaced out.
It is advisable to keep the soil moist until the seeds have germinated.
It is advisable to observe valerian plants regularly to remove weeds and to check that they have enough space to grow. Valerian is a hardy plant that does not require fertiliser, but it can be susceptible to fungal diseases in excessively damp conditions.
