How do I sow violets outdoors?
To sow violets outdoors, choose a sunny or semi-shady, well-drained spot. It is best to sow in autumn for spring flowering. The soil should be slightly moist and well prepared by weeding and deep tilling.
Sow the seeds to a depth of around 0.5 cm and space them 20 to 30 cm apart. Take care not to bury them too deeply, otherwise they will struggle to germinate. Tamp the soil lightly after sowing to ensure good contact between the seeds and the soil.
Water regularly but lightly to keep the soil moist without drowning it. Once the violets have germinated, be sure to protect them from slugs and snails that could damage them. By following these simple tips, you'll be able to enjoy beautiful violets in your garden without the need for fertiliser.
