Permapotes Update – January 2025
Hello friends,
I'm taking advantage of this rather gloomy weather to work on Permapotes... and I've just made a big update day. With this new version, you may find the site much faster than before and you will be able to test a new plan editor 😊.
Much more performance
Did you find the site a little slow at times? This should be history because according to my tests, Permapotes should be practically 2x faster than before or even 5x on certain pages on the first load. To make this possible, I rewrote a large part of the code to make it lighter and better optimized.
Improvement of the vegetable garden plan creation tool
Many of you are currently using the vegetable garden plan creation tool to prepare the location of your future crops for the 2025 season. I took the opportunity to make several improvements to the tool following your feedback and my use. To do this, the code that creates the plan has been completely rewritten so that I can more easily develop the tool later. I took the opportunity to review the interface and added some new features as follows.
New interface
You can add plots, plants, decorations or text with the new buttons located on the left of the screen on PC or at the bottom of the screen on mobile.
Plant search
When you click on the add a plant button, you can search your favorite plants for easier find the ones you want to include on your plan.
New toolbar
The toolbar has been redesigned and new options have arrived. On the first line of the toolbar, next to the "Save" button, a button allows you to "Download" as an image the plan on your device. If you want to start over with your plan, a new "Eraser" button also allows you to completely remove any objects you have added to the plan.
When creating the vegetable garden plan, a grid is displayed by default to more easily position the objects on the plan. You can hide or show the grid by simply clicking this button.
On the second line of the toolbar, you will now find the object manipulation buttons. The 1st allows you to edit an object (depending on the object, you can for example modify the background color or the name). The 2nd allows you to clone an object. The 3rd and 4th allow you to move an object in front of or behind the others. The 5e allows you to delete an object.
To the right of the toolbar, you will also find the options to duplicate a plan or delete it.
New shortcuts
On PC, you can select multiple objects at once by pressing the SHIFT key, clicking the plan and moving your mouse.
When an object is selected, you can press the DEL key on your keyboard to delete it directly.
Are you seeing any bugs?
Plans you previously created on the platform are still 100% compatible with the new editor. If you encounter any problem in the plan creation tool or elsewhere on the site, do not hesitate to inform me in the comments of this article, or by contacting me directly. If you have suggestions for improving the functionality of the site, don't hesitate to give me feedback!
Have a nice evening,
Arnaud
