Agapanthus
Agapanthus is a genus of perennial plants native to southern Africa, in the amaryllis family, Amaryllidaceae. Its familiar names include African lily and lily of the Nile, although those names do not describe a true lily of the genus Lilium. Garden plants include different species, hybrids and cultivars, so the name agapanthus alone does not tell you their final size, leaf persistence or winter hardiness.The plant forms a clump of long, strap-shaped leaves, often arching outward from the base. Fleshy rhizomes and roots support this growth. The foliage provides a strong outline even before the flower stems appear: upright at the centre and softer around the edges. Some forms keep their leaves in suitable conditions, while deciduous ones lose them seasonally.
