How do I sow shallots outdoors?
To sow your echalions successfully outdoors, it's important to sow them in spring, when temperatures are mild. Before sowing, work the soil by spading and levelling it so that it drains well. Echalions prefer light, well-aerated soil.
Create furrows about 2 cm deep and space the seeds 10 to 15 cm apart. Cover the seeds with fine soil and pack lightly. Water regularly with clear water, taking care not to over-wet the soil.
Make sure your echalions get enough sun, at least 6 hours a day. Avoid excess water so as not to rot the seeds. Once the plants are well developed, you can thin them out, keeping only the most vigorous plants.
By following these simple tips, you'll get beautiful echalions to enjoy in your favourite dishes.
