How can I successfully sow pomegranate under cover?
To sow persimmon plants under cover, we recommend doing so in spring, when temperatures start to warm up. Preferably choose an individual container, such as a terracotta pot, filled with a mixture of universal potting soil and garden soil.
Place the persimmon seeds about 1 cm deep in the substrate and water lightly to keep the soil moist. It is important to keep the potting soil moist but not soggy to encourage germination. Place the pot in a bright spot but away from direct sunlight to avoid overheating.
.Monitor the humidity of the substrate regularly and be sure to air the shelter regularly to avoid any risk of mould. Once the plants have reached a sufficient size, they can be transplanted into the open ground, preferably in autumn to allow them to adapt before winter.
How do I plant a persimmon tree?
To plant a plaqueminer, choose a sunny spot sheltered from the wind. The best time to plant is in autumn, between October and November, or in spring, between March and April.
Prepare the soil by spading it to a depth of at least 50 cm. Plaqueminier prefers acidic, light, well-drained soil. If your soil is too chalky, you can incorporate leaf litter or peat when preparing the soil.
Create a hole twice as wide and deep as the root ball of the plant. Place the root ball in the hole and fill in with soil, packing lightly. Water thoroughly after planting.
If you're planting a potted persimmon tree, make sure you choose a large enough pot with holes in the bottom for good drainage. Use a mixture of potting soil and sand for good plant development.
Plategrass does not need fertiliser, but you can mulch the base of the plant with dead leaves to keep the soil moist and limit weeds.
When does the persimmon tree flower?
The persimmon tree flowers in spring, usually between April and June. Persimmon flowers are small, white to pinkish in colour, and appear in clusters. The flowering period lasts an average of two to three weeks.
To encourage your persimmon tree to flower beautifully, we recommend planting it in a sunny spot away from strong winds. Also be sure to protect it from late frosts, which could damage the flowers. It's important to water your persimmon regularly, especially during dry spells.
.Avoid using chemical fertilisers to avoid upsetting the plant's natural balance. Favour natural gardening methods, such as organic mulching or compost, to nourish your plaqueminier. By following these tips, you'll be able to enjoy abundant, colourful blooms every spring.
What is the ideal size for a persimmon tree?
The persimmon tree is a fruit tree that can be pruned to encourage growth, fruiting and shape. Training pruning is carried out at the time of planting by removing misaligned branches and shortening the main branches to encourage the development of the framework. Maintenance pruning consists of removing dead, diseased or crossing branches to encourage the circulation of air and light in the tree.
To encourage fruiting, it is advisable to prune the persimmon tree after the fruit has been harvested, removing branches that bear little fruit or cutting them back to encourage the growth of new, productive branches. Persimmons can appear on both current-year branches and one-year-old wood, so it's important to prune evenly to encourage fruit production. By following these pruning tips, you'll be able to enjoy a vigorous, productive persimmon tree in your natural garden.
How do I harvest persimmons?
The persimmon tree is a delicious fruit to harvest in autumn. To know when to harvest persimmons, all you have to do is observe them: once they have turned an orange colour and come off the tree easily, that's the right time to pick them. Always be sure to cut the fruit with a small piece of stem to avoid damaging the tree.
The harvest can be kept for several weeks in ideal conditions. To extend shelf life, store ripe fruit in a cool, dry place, preferably away from light. You can also freeze persimmons to enjoy later in the year.
Avoid using chemical fertilisers to grow your persimmon trees, instead favour natural gardening methods. By caring for your trees and respecting their growth cycle, you'll be rewarded with a plentiful, tasty persimmon harvest. Enjoy this delicious autumn fruit and treat yourself!
