How to sow winter thyme successfully under cover?
To grow winter thyme under cover, we recommend sowing the seeds in small individual containers, such as peat cups. Fill the cups with light potting soil and place one thyme seed per cup, spacing them about 1 to 2 cm apart. Cover the seeds lightly with potting soil and water gently. It's best to place the pots near a window to benefit from natural light. Be sure to maintain a constant temperature of around 20°C to encourage germination.
It's important to regularly monitor the humidity of the potting soil to prevent it from drying out, but be careful not to overwater to prevent the seeds from rotting. Once the plants have developed a few leaves, you can transplant them into the ground or into larger pots, spacing them about 20 cm apart. Winter thyme thrives in well-drained, sunny soil. It does not require fertiliser, but you can enrich the soil by amending with compost.
