Melanzane BarbentaneHow to sow Barbentane aubergines successfully under cover?
To sow Barbentane aubergine seeds under cover, start by selecting a light, well-drained potting soil. Fill small individual pots about 8 cm in diameter with this potting soil and pack lightly. Place a seed about 1 cm deep and cover it with the potting mix. Water gently to moisten the potting soil without drowning the seed.
Place the pots in a warm, bright place, such as a greenhouse or conservatory, taking care to maintain a temperature of around 20-25°C. Keep the potting soil moist by watering regularly, but avoid excess water which could cause the seeds to rot.
Seeds can be sown as early as February for planting out in May. Take care to protect the young seedlings from temperature variations and draughts. Once the plants have developed a few leaves, you can transplant them into the ground, making sure there is a distance of around 60 cm between each plant.
