To grow San Marzano tomatoes under cover, start by sowing your seeds in cups or boxes filled with quality potting soil. Sow one or two seeds per cup at a depth of 0.5 to 1 cm. Water lightly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Place the cups in a warm, bright place, such as a greenhouse or conservatory.
Make sure the ambient temperature is at least 20°C to ensure optimum germination. San Marzano tomatoes need plenty of light to develop, so make sure they receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.
