How to sow Saint Victor winter leeks successfully under cover?

To sow Saint Victor winter leeks under cover, we recommend starting sowing between March and April. Choose a deep container and fill it with good quality potting soil. Make shallow furrows a few centimetres apart and place the leek seeds about 1 cm apart. Cover lightly with potting soil and tamp gently.

Maintain a constant temperature of between 15 and 20°C to encourage germination. Water regularly to keep the substrate moist, without soaking it. Good ventilation is also essential to prevent the development of fungal diseases.

Once the leek plants have reached a few centimetres in height and there is no risk of frost, you can transplant them into the ground, spacing them about 10 to 15 cm apart. Make sure you water them regularly and mulch around the plants to keep the soil moist. Saint Victor winter leeks can be harvested the following autumn.
