To sow butternut squash successfully under cover, it is advisable to do so at the end of April. Choose a bright, warm spot to set up your shelter, away from draughts. Use peat pots or terracotta pots filled with potting soil rich in organic matter.
Place a butternut squash seed in each pot, buried about 2 cm deep. Water gently so as not to dig up the seed. Keep the soil moist but not soggy while you wait for germination, which should take one to two weeks.
