How to sow Espelette chilli pepper successfully under cover?
To grow Espelette chillies under cover, it's important to start by sowing the seeds in February or March. Choose a shallow container and fill it with quality sowing compost. Plant the seeds at a depth of around 0.5 cm and water lightly to keep the substrate moist without soaking it.
Place the container in a warm, bright place, out of direct sunlight. Be sure to maintain a constant temperature of between 20 and 25°C to encourage germination. It's also important to monitor the humidity of the substrate and aerate regularly to prevent the development of fungal diseases.
Once the chillies have sprouted and reached a size of around 5 cm, you can transplant them into individual pots filled with universal potting soil. Continue to place them under cover until the risk of frost has passed, then you can transplant them into the open ground.
