How do I plant outdoor stevia seedlings?
To sow stevia outdoors, choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Sowing is generally done in spring, once any risk of frost has passed. Before sowing, work the soil by hoeing and levelling. Avoid using chemical fertilisers, preferring natural compost to enrich the soil.
Sow the stevia seeds about 0.5 cm deep and space them about 20 cm apart. Make sure you water regularly, but sparingly to avoid root rot. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
Be patient, stevia can take time to germinate. Be sure to thin out the seedlings once they have a few leaves to encourage their growth. Protect young plants from strong winds and slugs, which could damage them.
By following these simple tips, you can grow stevia outdoors and enjoy its naturally sweet leaves.
