How do I sow turnips with pink collars outdoors?

Pink-necked turnips are sown directly in the ground as soon as the soil can be worked, generally from March to July. Choose a sunny spot and prepare the soil by digging deep to ensure it is light, fertile and well-drained. Add a little compost or well-decomposed manure to enrich the soil.

Sow the seeds in rows spaced about 30 to 40 cm apart, depositing the seeds 1 cm deep. After emergence, which generally takes 1 to 2 weeks, thin out the young plants to leave 10 to 15 cm between each plant. This will allow the roots to develop properly and produce well-formed turnips.

Water regularly to keep the soil moist, especially during dry spells. Avoid the soil drying out, as this can slow turnip growth. You can also mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and limit weed growth.
