How do I sow peppermint outdoors?
To grow peppermint outdoors, it's best to sow the seeds in spring, once all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny or partly shady spot with well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
Before sowing, prepare the soil by weeding and working it deeply with a fork. You can also enrich the soil by mixing it with compost or potting soil.
Peppermint seeds are very small, so we recommend sowing them on the surface of the soil, spacing them about 30 cm apart. Then cover them with a thin layer of soil and tamp lightly to ensure good contact between the seeds and the soil.
During the growth phase, regularly monitor soil moisture and water as soon as it starts to dry out. Also make sure you remove any weeds that might compete with the mint.
Peppermint tends to invade quickly, so it's advisable to grow it in a pot or in a demarcated area to prevent it spreading uncontrollably through the garden.
