Borage
A well-known honey plant, borage is an annual and belongs to the Boraginaceae family.
This plant, whose leaves are covered with small hairs, can be consumed in several ways. The young shoot is edible and used as a condiment, it has a taste similar to cucumber. The leaves can also be used to make herbal tea. There are three varieties of borage, the blue-flowered officinal borage, the white-flowered "Alba" borage. We can find a variety of dwarf borage "Pygmaea" on the island of Beauty and in Sardinia.
The borage is a very easy plant to cultivate in the garden. You will not need to sow seeds every year since the plant reseeds itself and can even become invasive. You can sow seeds in a bucket, but they will germinate as well in the ground during March and April. It should not be placed in a place where the sun is hot. Half-shade is perfect for it. It prefers gardens with rich and drained soil, but it will do well in any type of soil.
The borage is not a fragile plant, it will sometimes be necessary to stake the stems of flowers which can fall under the weight of the floral stems. A division of the clumps can be necessary if it develops too quickly. You can start picking flowers and leaves in May, about two months after your first seedlings.
