How and when should aniseed seeds be sown outdoors?

To sow aniseed seeds outdoors, choose a sunny, well-drained spot. The best time to sow is in spring, once all risk of frost has passed. Before sowing, prepare the soil by carefully weeding and loosening with a pitchfork. Scatter the aniseed over the surface of the soil, about 20 cm apart. Cover the seeds lightly with fine soil and then pack lightly with the back of a rake.

Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but be careful not to overwater as aniseed does not like excess moisture. Once the plants have reached 10 cm in height, thin them out, leaving just one plant every 30 cm. Mulch around the plants to keep the soil moist and prevent weeds from growing.

Be sure to protect plants from strong winds and predators, such as slugs. By following these simple tips, you'll be able to get great harvests of aromatic anise for your dishes and herbal teas. Happy gardening!
