Melon
Annual herbaceous plant originating from India and intertropical Africa, the melon is a common plant belonging to the large Cucurbitaceae family, just like zucchini. It is now cultivated in vegetable gardens for its false fruit, which is commonly eaten in the summer. This polymorphic fruit is found in three main varieties: the first is called Charentais, with a pale green rind, containing a very orange and quite sweet flesh. The second variety is the Galia, with a green flesh but also sweet. Finally, the third variety is the yellow and green melons, recognisable by their oblong shape. Their flesh is clearly white. The melon is an excellent dish for the summer. It is generally found in summer salads, or it is eaten alone in slices, as a starter or as a dessert, with a touch of liqueur for the greediest!
As a summer vegetable, the melon needs heat! On the calendar, it is generally sown between March and May, indoors, to protect it from frost.Generally, melons are grown in a greenhouse in cooler regions to promote good growth. They need plenty of sunlight and rich soil to grow well. In terms of maintenance, melons require regular watering. It generally takes 4 to 5 months for the melons in your garden to reach maturity. Between 4 and 6 fruits can be harvested per plant.
