Marigold is an annual flower also known as calendula. It is an edible flower that can be eaten in salads, jams or we can also eat the buds like capers. This aromatic herb is part of the Asteraceae family. There are dozens of varieties including: Esterel, Baby orange or Indian Prince. It is an extremely simple flower to cultivate in the vegetable garden as well as in the garden.

Marigolds can be sown very well in the ground, but if you want to make flower pots, you can also sow them in pots. Marigolds are planted in April and May, but you can sow them earlier if you have a greenhouse or a covered area for your seedlings. It likes sunny exposures and it does not like too much moisture. It is not difficult and will grow in any garden soil, but be careful that it is not too rich.

Avoid getting the foliage too wet, as this can lead to powdery mildew. It can also be susceptible to aphids, so you will need to monitor your plants for possible infestation. You will be able to enjoy your calendula plants about two months after sowing, that is to say from June.
