Radish
White/Chinese radish (Daikon)How do I successfully sow daikon outdoors?
To sow white radishes (daikon) outdoors, choose a sunny, well-drained spot. It is best to sow the seeds in spring or autumn when the temperature is cooler.
Before sowing, prepare the soil by weeding and working it deeply so that it is loose. Sow the seeds about 1 to 2 cm deep, spacing them about 10 to 15 cm apart. Take care not to sow the seeds too densely to allow the radishes to develop properly.
Water the white radish plants regularly, taking care to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Expect them to germinate fairly quickly, usually in 5 to 7 days. Once the plants are well established, be sure to hoe them regularly to prevent weeds and keep the soil aerated.
White radishes are ready to harvest in about 45 to 60 days after sowing. For best flavour, harvest them when they are still young and tender. Happy growing!
