Broad beans

The broad beans (aka fava beans) cultivated for its edible seeds and can be eaten in various forms. It is used in the preparation of falafels in the Middle East, eaten raw in France, grilled in China and in soup in Quebec. The bean is an element of traditional Russian, Canadian or Egyptian cuisine. It belongs to the fabaceae family, also known as legumes. There are many varieties, including small beans, the large Nice and Aguadulce beans, and the broad bean. This vegetable is quick and easy to grow.

To plant fava beans in your garden, simply dig small holes at regular intervals in your vegetable garden, and then place in the holes a few seeds, thus using the technique of sowing. Concerning the calendar, it is possible to sow broad beans from autumn for the hot areas, or from spring for the other regions because the ideal temperature for their culture is around 20 degrees, they like to be exposed to the sun and fear the drought. They should be sown in cool, deep soil. It takes about three months from sowing to harvesting, and they can be kept in the freezer or refrigerator.
