Green beans

The bean is a vegetable plant that is widely used in cooking. Whether in salads or as a main course, beans are appreciated as much for their seeds as for the whole pod. This traditional garden vegetable belongs to the Fabaceae family, more simply called legumes.

Although the best known is the green bean, it can be yellow or purple depending on the variety. The flat bean or mangetout offers similar taste qualities. Rich in vitamins and fiber, beans are an important source of vegetable protein consumed in shelled varieties, such as kidney beans, coco beans, or mung beans. With frequent watering, it is easy to grow beans in any vegetable garden.

Before sowing the seeds in the ground, it is recommended to soak them in water to facilitate germination. Depending on the region, the planting period in the garden can be staggered over the calendar, from April to July. The plant needs a fairly warm and sunny soil. A soil that is not compacted and rich in humus favours growth.

After planting the bean seeds, it is necessary to hoe regularly to keep the soil moist. The ridging is done after the emergence. Watering at the foot prevents diseases. Even if the plants are spaced out, it is necessary to install stakes for the varieties with rods. Depending on the type of bean, it takes 2 to 4 months before harvesting.
