Corn
From the Poaceae family, corn consists of an ear with yellow (or white) kernels and green leaves. Corn is an essential ingredient in popcorn and Mexican bread. It exists in different varieties such as the yellow corn of Bresse, the golden corn of Gomer or the star corn of Normandy. The kernels are also eaten just seasoned as a starter. Corn is easy to cultivate, especially since it grows quickly.
In your vegetable garden, corn is planted in lines 70 cm apart. Packets of 3 corn seeds are planted at a distance of 40 cm. From May to mid-July, corn can be sown in the open ground, but it is possible to sow early in the greenhouse from March. Corn is a vegetable that requires a soil enriched with compost and well worked to plant it.
The corn requires a meticulous maintenance: it is necessary to weed with regular intervals so that it profits from all the water of rain (and watering). A mulch at the foot of each plant is essential to protect the corn from the cold. Finally, harvesting takes place from July to October depending on the sowing calendar and weather conditions.
