How do I sow watercress outdoors?

To sow Alen cress successfully outdoors, it is important to choose a sunny or semi-shady spot with cool, well-drained soil. Prefer sowing in spring, after the last frosts, or in autumn for an earlier harvest the following year.

Before sowing, prepare the soil by weeding and decompacting. Then sow the seeds broadcast or in rows 10 to 15 cm apart. Cover the seeds lightly with fine soil and tamp gently to ensure good contact between the seeds and the soil.

.

Water regularly but sparingly to keep the soil moist without soaking it. Be sure to thin out the plants to avoid competition and encourage the strongest plants to develop.

Monitor the growth of the plants.

Watch out for slugs and snails, which are fond of young watercress shoots. By opting for a natural gardening approach, you'll be promoting a healthy crop that respects the environment.

How do you harvest Alen cress?

Alenois cress can be harvested in spring or autumn. To harvest, simply cut the leaves at the base with scissors or a knife. It is important not to pull the plants up to allow rapid regrowth. The harvest can be kept fresh for up to a week in the fridge. For longer storage, watercress can be frozen: simply wash, dry thoroughly, then freeze in an airtight bag.
