Winter lettuce
Winter head lettuce is a plant that has been widely acclaimed for its many health benefits. Rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, it is ideal for maintaining good digestion and boosting the immune system. Winter head lettuce is also very versatile in the kitchen. It can be eaten raw in salads, or cooked in dishes such as soups, vegetable stir-fries and savoury pies. Its mild, crisp flavour adds a touch of freshness to many recipes.To grow winter lettuce in the vegetable garden, we recommend sowing it directly in the ground from September onwards. Take care to space the seeds about 30 centimetres apart to allow the plants to develop properly. It is also possible to plant mature plants, taking care to space them about 30 cm apart.
