How to sow radishes successfully outdoors?

To sow radishes outdoors, it's best to do so in spring or autumn, when temperatures are cooler. To prepare the soil, simply weed it and hoe it to make it loose. Then make shallow furrows 1 to 2 centimetres deep and 10 to 15 centimetres apart. Sow the radish seeds every 2 to 3 centimetres in the furrow, spacing them evenly. Cover the seeds with fine soil and pack lightly to encourage germination.

It's important to keep the soil constantly moist but not soggy until the radishes emerge. Also make sure you protect your seedlings from predators, such as slugs and birds, using natural methods. When should radishes be harvested?

Radishes are easy to grow and quick to harvest. They can be harvested as early as 3 to 4 weeks after sowing, usually in spring or autumn. To harvest them, simply pull the tops gently out of the soil. It is advisable to harvest them when they have reached a satisfactory size, before they become too large and fibrous. Once harvested, radishes can be kept for 1 to 2 weeks in the fridge, taking care to remove the tops, which continue to draw water from the vegetable.
