How to sow rosemary successfully outdoors?

To sow rosemary outdoors, we recommend doing so in spring, when temperatures start to warm up. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot for your sowing. Before sowing, carefully weed the surface of the soil and work it lightly with a pitchfork to loosen the soil.

Proceed with sowing by spacing the rosemary seeds about 30 cm apart. Cover the seeds lightly with fine soil and tamp gently. Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but do not over-water. Avoid using chemical fertilisers, as rosemary is happy with poor soil.

Be sure to protect your young rosemary plants from slugs and snails, which can be fond of young shoots. Once the plants are well established, you can enjoy this aromatic herb throughout the season, simply by letting it grow and pruning it regularly to encourage good growth.

How do I harvest rosemary?

Rosemary is an aromatic plant that is easy to grow and maintain. To harvest rosemary, it is recommended to do so in spring or summer, when the plant is in full growth. It is best to harvest rosemary stems in the morning, when the essential oils are more concentrated.

To harvest rosemary, simply cut the stems with sharp garden shears. It is important not to take too much from the plant to allow it to continue growing. Once harvested, the rosemary stems can be hung in a dry, airy place to dry. Once completely dry, the leaves can be removed from the stems and stored in an airtight glass jar away from light.

Harvested rosemary will keep for around a year, provided it is properly dried and stored. This way, you can enjoy the flavour and benefits of rosemary all year round.
