Celery, a vegetable plant belonging to the Apiaceaefamily, is appreciated in its two forms from the marshes: celery stalk and celeriac. Celery root or celeriac is cooked raw in remoulade, cooked in purée or in gratin. The cultivation of celery requires attention.

To grow celery in your garden, wait until after the hard frost. Many gardeners prefer to plant it, but there is nothing to stop you from sowing it. The sowing calendar is from early February to mid-May for celery root. The plants are placed in the garden from May to June. Celery requires regular and abundant watering and good fertilization. It grows best in sunny conditions and in very rich, loose soil.

The maintenance of the plants is not complicated: it is necessary to hoe and weed as for the other vegetables of the garden. Mulch the soil to keep it fresh and prevent the growth of unwanted weeds. For several years, avoid replanting celery in the same place in the garden. To ensure that the root of the celery root develops properly, in mid-September, cut off excess leaves. Celery sticks can be blanched in late summer by tightening the core. It will be ready to harvest after 6 to 7 months of cultivation.
