Rocambola garlic

Rocambole garlic, also known as wild garlic or Spanish garlic, is a plant with many benefits for our health. It contains sulfur compounds which give it antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Rocambole garlic is also rich in antioxidants, which makes it an ideal ally to strengthen our immune system. To grow rocambole garlic in the vegetable garden, it is necessary to start by sowing it in spring or fall. Seeds should be placed in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It is important to remember that this plant needs sunny exposure to develop properly. It is therefore preferable to plant it in a place where it will receive at least 6 hours of sun per day. To prepare the soil, it is recommended to enrich it beforehand by adding compost or manure. Then, simply sow the seeds at a depth of about 2 to 3 centimeters, spacing them 10 to 15 centimeters from each other.

Once the seeds are sown, it is important to keep the soil moist until they germinate, then space out watering thereafter. Rocambole garlic prefers slightly moist soil rather than flooded soil, so ensuring soil moisture is essential throughout the growing period. It is also recommended to mulch the soil around the garlic plants to retain moisture and reduce competition from weeds. The plant is undemanding in terms of fertilizer, but if the soil is poor, it is possible to apply a fertilizer rich in nitrogen before planting.

Harvesting rocambole garlic is generally done in early summer, when the stems begin to turn yellow and dry out. Simply pull gently on the stems to remove them from the ground. The bulbs can then be left to dry in the shade for a few weeks before using or storing for later use. It is important to note that rocambole garlic is a perennial plant, which means it can continue to produce bulbs for several years if properly cared for.
